The magical world of books
As far back as I can remember, literature has been one of the most enduring values of my life. As far as I can remember, there has always been a world of magic books for me to escape and dive into at any moment. For me, it was not just an escape, but a salvation.
“I am the head, and not the neck to move back and forth”
I was confused by the fact that women seemed weaker and more vulnerable than they really were. The problem was that they never openly acknowledged that they always had that supernatural power. The power of decision-making, self-determination has always been reserved for men, sometimes even when they were absent. It was as if they didn’t dare to do what they could and always did.
There was a saying that made me crazy even in my childhood, according to which “a man is the head and a woman is the neck to turn the head in any direction she wants”. I have argued this sentence so often. And I could never understand why women have to repeat such sayings, why they could never say: “I am the head, and not the neck to move it back and forth.”
It took me a while before I dared to acknowledge: “yes, I am a writer”
I love literature. I do believe in its enormous and even healing power. I do believe in fairy tales. I do believe in healing through stories. I do believe in becoming closer to each other when facing similar situations. And first of all, I do believe in the courage that you should have as an artist; the courage and readiness to open up even you become vulnerable.
It took me a while before I dared to acknowledge : “yes, I am a writer”.
The participation of German writers at the forum was possible due to cooperation with Goethe-Zentrum Eriwan.
